Mod Mod World

This outfit was inspired by Karen Walker's NYFW runway designs. I'm loving the orange with hunter green, mixed with muted colors. These are the Autumn/Winter 2013 looks, so I guess I'm a bit early! I can't help but think ahead!

I'm currently basking in the southern sun down in St. George for a quick President's Day getaway with my little fam. Mike is off golfing with some of his "buddies" (the universal dude term for friends), so it's Mamma time for me with my sweet K and V. The sun down here does something to my soul! It's amazing, and yet cruel. Cruel because it tricks me into thinking spring is just around the corner, and when we're home it absolutely is NOT.

Wishing you all a sunny, soul-brightening holiday today. (Sending out all kinds of good juju to entice spring to get here STAT!)

Velvet & Fishnets

If you're ever feeling like channeling your inner hooker just throw on a pair of platform heels, some fishnets and velvet in any form or fashion. BAM! You'll be feelin' it. It probably didn't help that I was standing roadside while cars were passing and staring. "Mind yer own durn business!" (we were in Spanish Fork, after all).

I especially love the pop of color I get with these heels. Adds instant intrigue.

Sequins & Polka Dots

While we surely didn't intend on taking pictures with the sun so low, they turned out so cool with the sun shining off my sequined tank. Meagan is a whiz behind the camera!

This is an outfit I wore to church on Sunday, but would definitely wear it again to a holiday party or special event.

Speaking of church, yesterday's was a solo event. Since my husband was home sick, I came home after choir practice to pick up my two year old son, then head back. What should've been a morning of Sunday prep complete with bow tie tying, belt fastening, backpack readying, and the like, turned into a screeching, thrashing toddler refusing to get dressed, then me dropping S on his bed and storming out to attend church alone. I'm childish like that. But so is he. These tantrums have got to stop! From both of us...

And since I'M in love with this booties and tights combo, I figured you'd want a close-up! You're welcome.

Studs & Color Blocking

A trend I am totally on board with is color blocking. You'll find it on the celebs, if you care about those folks, on Pinterest, and just regular ol' gals like me!

And I definitely had to put in a plug about the DIY booties from this post. Something to learn from this DIY is that super glue would've been the better bonding agent. Still loving them though, and surprisingly, I lasted all three hours of church in them, WITH a two year old. Bonus!

Season Skinnies

Colored skinnies are by no means on their way out, so don't feel too guilty about all the pairs you've bought this spring and summer! However, if you're feeling iffy about wearing some of the brightly colored ones this fall, buy yourself some Rit dye, and transform them into deeper autumn hues.

I purchased this kelly green pair at Target earlier this year, and felt a hunter green would suit me better this time of year.

I highly advise getting yourself an adorable helper like I did, the work was much more enjoyable this way.

Polka Dots & Pleats

Often I find myself saving my skirts for Sundays and special occasions, and the sight of numerous skirts in my closet makes me feel guilty. They should be worn often!

One purpose of this blog is to really utilize our wardrobes; dig deep into the contents of our closets. If I would just reach for a skirt rather than a pair of jeans during the week, I'd end up with fun outfits such as this one more often; a completely doable weekday ensemble!

I'm also loving the knotted top with a maxi skirt. It really helps eliminate the bulky problem I often encounter when I tuck in my top, plus it adds structure to what could potentially be boxy. Bonus!

Geo & Leather

Meagan the brunette.
Caitlyn the blonde.
Two women.
Both mothers.
Using what we've got in our closets.
Making fun of ourselves.
And laughing a lot.

Using fashion as a creative outlet.
